Pastor's Bio

Reverend Arthur J. Washington, Jr.

            Rev. Arthur J. Washington, Jr., the second of four children, was born to Rev. Arthur J. Washington, Sr. and Deaconess Gloria Fells Washington.  He was reared in Caroline County, VA where he received his public school education, graduating from Caroline High School in 1979.

Rev. Washington accepted Christ early in life and united with the Second Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Milford, VA under the pastoral leadership of Rev. George Lowry.   He later moved his membership to the Third Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Woodford, VA under the pastorate of Rev. Antonio Baker who licensed him to preach in July 2004.  At Third Mt. Zion, Rev. Washington was very active in the ministries of the church, serving as Assistant Chairman of the Ushers’ Ministry, Chairman of the Trustee Ministry, Chairman of the Sound Committee and Chairman of the Transportation Ministry. 

In 2006, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, Rev. Washington accepted the call to serve as Youth Pastor at Long Branch Baptist Church, Woodford, VA under the pastorate of Rev. L. Tremayne Lacey.  In addition to leading the many facets of the youth ministry, he also served as spiritual leader of the Ushers’ Ministry and assisted with the Bible Study Ministry.

Rev. Washington studied at the Fredericksburg Bible Institute and Seminary where he earned a Bachelor of Theology Degree in 2008.  He then attended The Evans-Smith Leadership School of Theology of Virginia Union University earning a Certificate in Religious Studies in 2011.  He went on to matriculate at the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology of Virginia Union University where he received a Certificate in Proclamation and Pastoral Care in 2013. On May 3, 2014, I received the call and accepted the position as Pastor-Elect of the Good Hope Baptist Church and was officially installed on September 21, 2014.
